Trend #1: Deep Hunter Green

Although the shade has a long-running sporting history, I’m not so sure if you want to use it as a base for your home’s interior. You will probably end up repainting your walls after you realize you’ve matched them with the inside of a forest. We find the shade vaguely unsettling, regardless of what the people at Elle Décor think.
It doesn’t get any trendier than this.

I don’t think it’s coincidence that this gem of a “trend” is #10 out of 10 trends highlighted by housebeautiful.com’s Mimi Read. Someone wasn’t going to settle for a list of nine trends for 2013. And someone else didn’t want to come up with a real trend, so they throw this one on at the end. Antique furniture isn’t a “trend” so much as it’s something that people have always considered bringing into their homes.

The Great Recession put a huge dent in the notion of glamour and luxury, but it’s slowly coming back. It all starts with worn woods and fabrics, understated hues, and antique furniture bedazzled with well-worn jewels.
Trend #4: Historic patterns, computer generated patterns

This is a split trend. Many of the “historical” patterns people will use in 2014 will be computer generated. And a lot of the computer generated patterns will be very contemporary, modeled as they are on what’s going on in the world of high fashion.
What to do?
Participating in a trending look need not be expensive or require you to renovate your home every time the season changes. If you want to participate in the trendy “hunter green” look, start with a lampshade or a little bit of wallpaper before you go crazy and start repainting entire rooms, turning your home from beautiful to ugly and hard to sell. Paint your baseboards instead of the walls. Refinish some old furniture to give it an antique patina. Putting in some sweat equity can help your bank account stay in-tact even as you follow and execute the season’s latest trends.
