Having a garden, yard or another outdoor space is a great addition to your home. But many people feel that they don't get as much out of their garden as they could. It can be difficult to make use of your garden all year round, when you never know what to expect of the weather. And while sitting outside talking and watching the kids play is nice, you can't help feeling that your garden has untapped potential. But you can make sure that you're using all of your garden space in a variety of ways. It helps if you have a large garden, but even if you don't have a lot of space to work with, you can transform your outdoor area into a more entertaining place to be.
It's not secret that the people of Britain love to throw a barbecue as soon as the first hint of summer appears. There may not be that many opportunities to use a barbecue over the year, but it certainly makes summers more interesting. Barbecues can become the focal point of family meals or dinner parties. Near to your barbecue you can have a dining area for everyone to eat, or a less formal seating arrangement for when you have a lot of people over. You don't have to save the barbecue for summer either. If you install it underneath an awning, on a covered deck or even in a separate shelter, you can use it in all weathers.

Swimming pools are another thing that you might think are exclusively for summer, but if you have a big enough garden, you can set them up for use all year. Install your pool with a pool enclosure and heating, and you can use it even if it's cold or raining. Swimming pools aren't just for large gardens either. If you have a smaller space to work with, buy a smaller free-standing pool. You can pack it away when you're not using it, and you can easily set it up, so you can get paddling almost straight away.
If you find sitting in the garden just a bit boring, you could install some technology to entertain you. You can already take an eBook reader or MP3 player outside, but have you considered installing a television or outdoor sound system? To use your ordinary flat-screen TV outside, thetvshield.com have outdoor TV enclosures that will protect it. Or you can buy a television made for outdoor use, but these are more expensive.
Fire Pit or Fireplace
One of the big problems with gardens in the UK is being unable to use them in wet or cold weather. But installing a fireplace or fire pit by a seating area will provide you with someone warm to sit on an autumn or winter day. Create a comfortable seating area on a covered deck or patio and warm yourself by the fire. Or you could use electric heaters to warm your garden and save on wood.
