5 Tree Trimming Tips That Will Help You Stay Safe

If you have a lot of trees in your garden it can transform it into a magical jungle, but sooner or later you will need to do something about them. There could be too much branches and it's stopping any sun from reaching your patio. Maybe you're just sick and tired of cleaning up thousands of dead leaves when they fall from the trees.

Trimming your trees by yourself is no easy task because something might go wrong. Today we're going to discuss some of the things you should watch out for. By paying close attention to each of these tips you will prevent a disaster from happening, both to you and your possessions.

Work in nice weather

Before you start trimming your trees you must make sure it's dry and there is no wind. You definitely don't want to be using dangerous tools when it's blowing a gale outside in case you end up mutilating your body when your chainsaw hits you. The branches you're cutting could blow anywhere too. It also can't be wet so you don't slip when you're climbing up and down ladders or trees.

Move things away

Inspect the area where you're going to be working because you don't want to smash anything expensive that is lying around in your garden. Some things will obviously be a lot harder to move away if they're too big, but at the same time you don't want to end up with a hole in the roof of your garden shed. In situations like that it's best to avoid cutting branches away unless you hire a professional.

Don't turn your back

Some branches you decide to cut could be large and if they hit you on the head anything could happen. That is why you must make sure you never turn your back if you don't want to get hurt. I know you might think common sense will prevail, but speak to the people who have been hurt and they might tell you otherwise. If you're chopping a tree down it's even more important you don't turn your back to it.

Inspect before climbing

When you start climbing on top of things it gets more dangerous. Ladders will be the first thing you climb on, so make sure someone is holding them in position. If you start reaching for branches they could snap off and you could go flying, so you need to make sure any branches you're putting your hands on aren't dead or loose. You need to do the same thing if you think about standing on any branches.

Wear safety equipment

Because there is nobody watching over you it's easy to take shortcuts, so you might decide you don't need to wear safety equipment. Before you do anything you must make sure you have gloves, a helmet, safety glasses, and steel-capped boots. If you're using a chainsaw you should also wear protection for your ears. You shouldn't even be using a chainsaw unless you're experienced in using it.
