Three Tips for Improving Your Bathroom

Did you know that updating your bathroom can add up to 20 per cent to the value of your property? Lots of people don’t, so when they have money to spend on home improvements, they focus on fixing up more visible areas, such as their living room or kitchen.

But if you stop to think about it, the bathroom is actually one of the most used areas in your home. Every time you have guests around, they’re going to use it, and if it’s old, shabby and cluttered, it’s not a good look.

So, on that note, don’t you think it’s time that you did something about it? Here are a few simple tips to help you – they’re easy to follow, and with any luck they’ll add value to your property too!

Make the Most of Your Space

Bathrooms tend to be one of the smallest rooms in our houses, but that doesn’t mean that they have to feel small, cramped or cluttered. There are lots of clever little space saving ideas floating around, which will help to make your bathroom feel bigger, airier and more luxurious. If you feel the need to update your old bathroom furniture and fixtures, corner basins, back-to-wall toilets and wall-mounted vanity units, for example, are all great space-saving alternatives to their more traditional counterparts. Not only will they optimise the available space, but they also manage to look edgy and effortlessly cool at the same time.

Think About Storage

As we’ve already mentioned, bathrooms tend to be pretty short on space, so as well as thinking about space-saving features, it also pays to consider how you can optimise storage. Excessive clutter is not a good look, and ornamenting your bathroom with bottles of shampoo, conditioner and shower gel tends to detract from the chic, sleek look you were aiming for. Have a good think about where you could fit storage space: perhaps you could squeeze a shelf above your toilet, a small cupboard under the basin or cabinets on the walls? You’ll be amazed at the difference a little bit of streamlining can make.

Monochrome

Monochromeis in vogue right now, and is one of the easiest ways to create a look that seems well planned, elegant and stylish. Porcelain fixtures, black and white tiles and monochrome flooring look great, but if you’re working from a budget you could effect your theme through accessories alone: black and white towels, a lick of paint and printed canvases should be enough to do the trick.

What are you waiting for? Update your bathroom now!
